Bob founded Healthy Companies International over twenty years ago with the singular goal of helping executives achieve their leadership potential. With support from a multiyear grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Bob and his colleagues began an in-depth study of leadership. Since then, he has personally interviewed more than 500 CEOs—in forty-five countries—in organizations as diverse as Ford, Motorola, Johnson & Johnson, Singapore Airlines, Brinks, Northrop Grumman, Toyota, Citigroup, PepsiCo, ING, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has become an adviser to many of these companies, and coordinates the Healthy CEO Roundtable.

He subsequently earned a PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Bob teaches in executive education programs, and has been a longtime faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at George Washington University’s School of Medicine.

In his role as Vice Chairman, Jim is one of our most sought-after leadership advisers and consultants. He partners with top leaders to assess and develop executive team leadership capabilities and clarify their vision and values and is at the forefront of our leadership consulting and advisory services. He then integrates business and human capital strategies to guide them through culture change initiatives. Back at the office, Jim helps interpret client needs and experiences to develop and implement the company’s business strategy, as well as create new client-centered products and offerings.
At the heart of Jim’s work is his belief in learning and growth, as well as his drive to build healthy, transparent relationships. In addition to his client responsibilities, he has helped lead the Healthy Companies team responsible for developing the company’s landmark “Grounded and Conscious Leadership Experience”, a highly interactive virtual and instructor-led set of leadership offerings that enable leaders to deepen the ability and awareness to more effectively navigate through today’s challenging times.
He joined HCI in 1997 after devoting several years to his music. An accomplished musician and composer, Jim applies his understanding of the challenges and untapped potential inherent in the creative process to his work with top leaders. His unique ability to balance discipline and imagination enables him to allow the best ideas to emerge. Jim holds a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from Washington & Lee University. He loves to read, study classical music, and travel. He is also an avid swimmer.
EVP Consulting Services
As our Chief Learning Experience Officer, Rick is responsible for the delivery of The Healthy Leader Progams, including leadership development, executive coaching and advisory services. He works with clients and our senior team members to assist top-level executives with organization-wide change management, strategic planning, and critical leadership issues. With a passion for what it means to be a good leader, Rick understands the impact leaders have on their organizations, both good and bad. He knows that when leaders have clearly articulated values and vision, behave consistently, and pay attention to the people side of the businesses, their companies soar.
His ability to support executives at all levels in thinking and acting more strategically, and his awareness of the importance of guiding people through change, enable Rick to make a difference in people’s lives. On the professional side, he has helped leaders raise revenues, increase operating margins, address quality issues, reduce costs, and maintain productivity. On the personal side, he has helped people improve their skills, achieve balance in their lives, and resolve family issues. In addition, with over 25 years of experience in many aspects of strategic organizational development, Rick has provided executive assessment and coaching on the role of global leaders, facilitating systematic organization-wide change, strategic planning, building high performance teams and effective work relationships.
He has designed and facilitated a wide range of leadership development activities to help leaders learn to operate more effectively across a broad spectrum of environments. His focus on action learning and collaborative processes for resolving conflict contributes to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives, and promotes the active engagement of key stakeholders in the change process, reducing the risks and obstacles to effective change. He has coached global leaders to deal with issues of diversity, strategy and leadership for multi-cultural organizations. His clients include Northrup Grumman, DynCorp International, Patron Spirits International and Gambro Healthcare International. Rick received his M.S. in Organization Development, with distinction, from American University/National Training Laboratories, and his B.S. in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University.
Chief Marketing Officer
Susan serves as Chief of Marketing at The Healthy Leader. She is responsible for the execution of marketing strategies, campaigns, messaging, print and digital marketing, PR, social media and communications, and brand initiatives that advance the strategic direction of the company.
She helps to build and sustain constructive partnerships with strategic alliances and networks, collaborates with outside design agencies to drive marketing strategy and creative expression of the Healthy Leader® brand in all online and printed materials and promotion, and sponsorships and events.
Prior to joining The Healthy Leader, Susan was Director of Community Based Marketing and Sales for Au Pair in America of the American Institute for Foreign Study, and Director of Research Services at Invoke Solutions, both in Stamford, Connecticut. She is an experienced market researcher and certified Focus Group Moderator, trained at the Burke Institute of Market Research. A graduate of the University of Virginia where she received a BS and was captain of the Women’s Lacrosse team, Susan is an avid golfer, recently shooting her first hole in one! She is part of a volunteer Pet Therapy Team certified by Pet Partners, with her dog Dixie and provides therapy visits for patients and employees at Sibley Hospital in Georgetown, D.C. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland.
Chief Administrative Officer
Vicky is chief of all Healthy Leader operations including our vendors, client relationships, coaches and facilitators and keeps everything running smoothly. She is our presentation designer and is responsible for making sure our clients, coaches, and certified facilitators have excellent materials, both digital and printed.
Vicky and her family live in Virginia with their beloved shelter dog and enjoy taking day trips in the country and attending the kids sporting events and activities. She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.
KATHLEEN ROSS PH.D
Kathie brings over 25 years of experience as a Chief People Officer in a variety of settings, including major publicly traded companies. She has worked with start-ups, IPOs, mergers/acquisitions, as well as not-for-profit organizations (Arbitron Inc., IPM Global, Chevy Chase Bank, The National Rural Electric Association and Sallie Mae). Throughout her career, she has excelled at both strategy and execution—consistently designing and delivering human capital and culture initiatives that link to critical business outcomes and that create high performing organizations.
Kathie has served as an advisor and staff liaison to corporate compensation committees, governance and nominating committees and CEO search committees. She is actively involved in numerous professional, philanthropic and artistic boards. She earned her PhD in Organizational Behavior and Development from the business school at GWU where she serves as adjunct faculty. A thought leader in the strategic talent arena, Kathie is a recent chair of HR – People & Strategy (HRPS). She has a grown daughter and lives in Arlington with her husband, Doug.
Barry has held senior executive positions in a variety of investment and financial services organizations. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Communications and Employee Health Services at New York Life Insurance. Previously, he served as Vice President at E*TRADE Group, President at UAM Retirement Plan Services, and Managing Director at Bankers Trust Company. Barry advises in the areas of business growth, human capital strategy and talent development.

Tom is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience identifying, coaching and developing top talent for critical business roles. Tom has served as the Chief Human Resources Officer for a number of Fortune 50 companies, including Walmart International, ING Financial Services, Nielsen Marketing Research and PepsiCo. Tom brings a deep understanding of today’s global human capital and communication challenges. His executive level experience and advice in highly competitive, entrepreneurial environments where dramatic growth and change are commonplace, is an asset to any organization.

Mitch brings a wealth of experience in the finance, retail and fashion industries. Most recently, Mitch served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for the Ralph Lauren Corporation. In this role, he oversaw an array of functions, including human resources, information technology, legal and corporate services, internal branding and communication, and social responsibility initiatives. Prior to joining Ralph Lauren, Mitch was the Senior Vice President and CHRO for both CONSECO and Footlocker World-wide, and held several senior divisional Human Resources roles with Federated Department Stores (now Macy’s). Mitch advises on human strategy and cultural transformation.

Tony comes from a rich background in business consulting services, having served most recently as Vice Chairman and Regional Managing Partner of the Pacific Southwest of Deloitte LLP. Prior to assuming that role, Tony served Deloitte as both a National Managing Partner and Regional Managing Partner, as well as Vice Chairman. Tony is also a Director of Tristate Capital Holdings and Tristate Capital Bank, a Director of MedStar Health, and a Trustee of Gallaudet University. He also served as Director of The Private Sector Council. Tony advises on board/management relationships.
